The Russian operas are one of the most popular performances known throughout the globe. The Helikon Opera Theater opened on April 10th 1990 under the guidance of the talented young producer, Dmitry Bertman and the well- known local conductor, Kiril Tikhonov. Having a wide experience, Bertman founded Helikon in 1990 and by 1993; it had reached "State" status with its increasingly popular and well- attended productions.

The “Helikon- Opera” consists of more than 50 performances, each of which is unique. The theatre always strives to show outworn scenic embodiments and surprise the audience with novelty and impudence, along with bright vocal and drama performance. The hall has a seating capacity of 250.

All the performers have zealously put in lot of efforts during each of the performances. Therefore, it is one of the most popular theatres in Moscow. “Die Fledermaus” performance in Eviane (2000) conducted by Mstislav Rostropovich became the remarkable event in the music world. The production of Verdi's “Aida” attracted attention in Strasbourg at the festival devoted to the 100- anniversary from the death of G. Verdi. In 2004 the theatre opened the summer festival in Santander with Bellini's "Norma".
